Neurotransmitter: Acetylcholine

 A C E T Y L C H O L I N E

The action of winking is an example of how this neurotransmitter works, because acetylcholine stimulates all of our muscles to contract to perform any movement in our body. This neurotransmitter was the first to ever be discovered by Henry Hallett Dale in 1914. It can be both excitatory and inhibitory and is found in both the PNS and the CNS. Not only does acetylcholine help to stimulate our muscles to contract, it also plays a role in motivation, arousal, attention, learning, memory, and promoting REM sleep.
